Sometimes you need to move out of your comfort zone to be more creative. Doing a native collection was not necessarily a natural step for me. I’ve been a bit sequestered when it comes to inspiration for my prints, finding it mainly through the passing lightbulb flashes in my head. But for awhile now I’ve been wanting to branch out and actually start seeking stimulus for my design content. So I took a little field trip earlier this year, and the things I saw lit me up. I hope you will love the result, the first print of many for this new collection. My love for Hawai‘i’s greenery has been ignited in a new way and I am so excited to share it.Read More
As I am with everything, I’m a little behind schedule in writing this blog post. I didn’t even get to the last two posts I wanted to write- one of which was supposed to be about strong women. When thinking about the topic, I connected with a few words that capture part of what being a strong woman means to me: “To be a woman is to be unapologetically resilient despite everything.” As women we have so many challenges and incredible obstacles to face just to be comfortable in our own skin and our own bodies. And the more roles we take on, the more complex and sometimes difficult it can be to just be. Insert “mother” for woman in that sentence and you might see what I mean. The following is just a short tidbit about my experience as a mother. As for the challenges I have faced, in this post I only cover maybe the tip-top of the iceberg with the experience of son’s birth. I hope however, that this post, meager as it may be, might give you reason to pause and contemplate your own role as a woman, as a mom, or that of someone you are close to.
Happy belated Mother’s Day to all of you, mother or not.️Read More
BLOCK PARTY is a little bit retro, a lot bit fun. Inspired by tropical breeze blocks from the 1950’s and 60s’ it celebrates all things Hawaii and the Aloha spirit. Not only is it funky fresh, but it’s durable as well. We’ve printed color on DENIM for the first time, and we’re super excited to debut it for the first time!Read More
I’ve gained insight on how complicated and diverse love is, even just in my small world. Love is not always straightforward and perfect; it’s not unkind, but it can still be traumatic and shattering, and depending on how you deal with it, it will set you back or push you forward.Read More
I never thought I’d be an artist and/or designer. It’s been eight + years since I started JANA LAM, and I still can’t really believe this is what I do. I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self to follow her heart and not doubt herself, but I know that I’m at this place in my life now because I felt uncertain and because I took detours. The dips and turns weren’t very fun or always enlightening, but they took me back to the start, back to art and back to what I love.Read More
