Before and During
It is amazing how much we produce in our small indoor/outdoor Honolulu, Hawaii home studio. Even more amazing when you add in the fact that until this week there were product racks hanging in front of all of the shelves that store our supplies. Picking linings became a game of limbo. In a moment of frustration, brought on by a waterfall of beach bags, it was decided that new shelves were necessary. Our balancing act was going to come to an end. We spent about a week researching the options available for purchase within Hawaii. Everything we found was a Goldilocks situation. That one is too wide, that one is too short, that one is ugly. We quickly decided maybe we should just look at Ikea. We had ordered Alex drawers through Haul2HI before, so we knew the shipping charge would be hard to swallow. But we were just going to look! The Fjalkinge shelves were the perfect width, the perfect height, and so nice to look at. AND if we ordered that day we would make it in the next shipment. Either the stars aligned, or we quickly jumped into it quite a large Haul2HI purchase. Either way the Fjalkinge shelves are perfect, and we were all working on cloud nine by the end of this week.
It did take us a whole week of removing all of our storage, putting everything together, and reorganizing. And all the while, production was happening around the mess. Tia put it all together, with a little help from this summer's intern. Lyon made an appearance on day one to help Tia organize all the small pieces. Screws became rocket ships. Feet were buildings. And everything ended up on the floor.
It was a rough week, but well worth it. Luckily, in the midst of it all we got a huge batches of Mini Mini Clutches and Cosmetic Clutches done in time for Made in Hawaii Festival. Next week we will finish stocking our white and gold prints on black fabric (in so many styles) and Pillows for next weekend. Maybe next time we will plan our reorganization projects during a slower time.
