Pua Kala. What sets Pua Kala apart from our other JL florals?  First off, it’s an actual plant endemic to Hawai’i; the only endemic poppy here.  And it’s not any run of the mill Poppy, it’s known as the Prickly Poppy for a reason.  The Pua Kala is a bad ass that can withstand the harshest of conditions. She tolerates wind and heat and fire and can regenerate soon after her habitat has burned.  She’s so beautiful and fragile (the blooms will wilt very quickly once they are picked) but at the same time, don’t mess with her because she will get you with her thorns and she is a survivor! Nothing is going to bring her down.  She’s one of my all time favorite plants and this print is a celebration of her and her indomitable spirit.

Fabric:
All Jana Lam Handmade in Hawaii textiles are silk-screened by hand on cotton fabrics with water-based inks. This piece is made from a 100% cotton twill fabric with a soft finish, and is reinforced with lightweight interfacing to give the fabric some strength without adding weight.

Care:
The #janalamfam recommends spot cleaning when smaller spots show up. We usually use Shout Wipes for that, but Jana has used tide pens in the past. Make sure if there is a white top print to be a little more gentle on rubbing spots out. Since the ink sits on top of the fabric a bit more than other colors, there is a chance of the ink rubbing off and getting on other parts of the fabric.

But, you can put your Jana Lam's in the wash. We usually use a hand wash cycle and lay flat to dry. After it's dried, it is always good to give it a little bit of an iron. We use 100% cotton fabric, so it may shrink in the dryer, but will definitely stand up to ironing.
