Jana Lam hand-printed Roundie Cross Bodies are made with love and aloha at the Jana Lam Studio in the Kaka’ako neighborhood of Honolulu, Hawaii.

For the woman who doesn’t want a cookie cutter life but loves cookies…a bag in the shape of a cookie!  So many good things are round, like the sun and the moon and the earth. My heart isn’t round, but if I could have designed it, it would look like a Roundie Crossbody- stylish, fun, unique and so cool.

9" zipper opening. Fully lined with air tag tab. Adjustable leather cross body strap measures 28" to 53" fully extended.

Persimmon. This is a special print.  It was inspired by our very own, Erin. I created the Persimmon drawings without even asking why? Why is this a fruit that she loves so much?  First of all, it’s “just a kyoot froot” she says.  But it goes much beyond that.  Erin says one of her fondest memories is seeing strands of persimmon hanging from the porch awning at Cafe Hamagurihama in Ishinomaki in the fall of 2017. They take her back to the fall of 2014 and her first trip to Japan with a mission team to serve the communities of Ishinomaki that were still rebuilding themselves after the great tsunami and earthquake of 2011. It was while she was on this mission trip her dad passed away back home in Hawaii, and it felt like all of sudden she had her own disaster. It was the team’s tradition to always make a stop at Cafe Hamagurihama, and it became a special place for her. She realized that she went on the mission to serve others, but it ended up serving her. “It’s funny how that works out sometimes.” She says, “When I think of Ishinomaki, about the community that became like family to me there, when I remember those cutie persimmons hanging from the porch of Hamagurihama, I always remember that through life’s struggles, there are blessings to be had as well.”

 

Persimmons are beautiful, unique, and they are a symbol of transformation, good luck, harmony and balance.  Yes this is a kyoot froot print, but the hope is that it will engender those associations and feelings. Also, persimmon are said to protect you from tigers, so  if you’re ever in India or Southeast Asia, I hope you’re carrying our one of our Persimmon bags :)

Fabric: 
All Jana Lam Handmade in Hawai‘i textiles are silk-screened by hand on cotton fabrics with water-based inks. This piece is made from 100% cotton fabric that is reinforced with interfacing to give the fabric some shape with a soft feel.

Care:
The #janalamfam recommends spot cleaning when smaller spots show up. We usually use Shout Wipes for that, but Jana has used tide pens in the past. Make sure if there is a white top print to be a little more gentle on rubbing spots out. Since the ink sits on top of the fabric a bit more than other colors, there is a chance of the ink rubbing off and getting on other parts of the fabric. 

But, you can put your Jana Lam's in the wash. We usually use a hand wash cycle and lay flat to dry. After it's dried, it is always good to give it a little bit of an iron. We use 100% cotton fabric, so it may shrink in the dryer, but will definitely stand up to ironing.
