Fa La La: Holiday Packaging Design for Honolulu Cookie Company
This was our second time working with HCC, so I felt extra comfortable just going for it and having fun with all the elements. I felt like I was able to put a unique spin on all the pieces I put in the design, so it made it really playful. The funniest thing about the whole thing though was that I actually completed the whole piece...I like to create a singular piece and then break it into parts...and then I had a lightbulb go on, and I started over replacing the word JOY with FA LA LA. I draw everything by hand, so I just had to do it all again. I kept the elements, but it changed the whole thing completely. It was worth it though, and when I told HCC, they agreed with me...they loved FA LA LA too, and they ended up using the singular artwork as is, as well as the repeat.

| Jana Lam is a Honolulu, Hawai‘i based design company that focuses on products and accessories for an endless summer. Lam's beach front home once served as the production house of her handmade in Hawaii line of one-of-a-kind, hand-printed and sewn apparel and home accessories. In Fall 2017, printing and production move out of the home studio, and the Jana Lam Studio + Shop was opened in Kaka'ako. While hand-printed and hand made products are the bread and butter of Jana Lam Hawai‘i, Lam is a prolific textile designer, surface pattern designer, and repeat pattern designer who has worked on many collaborations, packaging designs, mural designs, and campaigns with businesses large and small. |
